Recommended Antiracism / Antioppression Resources, October 2022 compiled by Kel and Anne

This month we wanted to share some resources on misinformation, disinformation, and how the intentional or unintentional manipulation of facts in online media can undermine social justice movements and create harmful false narratives. The ability to identify and debunk misinformation and disinformation is a critical skill for anyone engaging with online media. We hope that these readings and videos are helpful in enhancing our college community's collective ability to identify mis- and disinformation.

• The Contagion of Stigmatization: Racism and Discrimination in the “Infodemic” Moment, 2020 A scholarly yet accessible discussion of with a call to action to call out casual racism in public health messaging as well as in everyday speech. Many good references for further reading too.
• Combatting Disinformation and Misinformation: A Struggle for Democracy and Racial Justice 2022 This piece frames the problem of misinformation and disinformation and the outsize negative impact upon communities of color and summarizes some approaches to recognizing and combatting misinformation and disinformation. The accompanying webinar is long but very worth your time, as the panelists offer a range of tools and strategies for combating disinformation and misinformation.
• Queer Filipinx Short Documentary - Drama Del Rosario’s Coming Out Story in 'In This Family' Looks Back on Growth, His Own and His Parents This film was featured on PBS and documents his own Coming Out story and his Filipinx heritage.
