SPARC is an international coalition of 200+ members (mostly academic and research libraries in the U. S. and Canada) that seeks to make Open Access the default for scholarly research. There are affiliate organizations in Europe, Japan, and Africa, which represent an additional 600 libraries and research institutions around the world.

Founded in 2001, PLOS is a nonprofit organization that accelerates progress in science and medicine by leading a transformation in research communication.

Open Access Week is a global event that seeks to inform the academic and research community about developments in Open Access and seeks to make Open Access the new norm in scholarly publishing.

Right to Research is an advocacy and educational group founded by students in 2009 to promote greater student access to research.
