WHAT IS DISABILITY STUDIES?

Disability studies is an interdisciplinary field that examines disability to understand its meaning, nature, and how it is constructed in society through various dimensions, including historical, cultural, and political. Centering the lived experiences of people with disabilities is an organizing principle of this field.

Students may be interested in disability studies for personal, community, social, legal, political, academic, and professional reasons.
