Open Educational Resources (OER) Fellowship - June Program

The Library seeks applicants for the Open Educational Resources (OER) Fellowship – an accelerated version of our professional development program first instituted in 2015. Full-time and part-time faculty are eligible to apply with their chair’s approval. Faculty who are currently supplementing required course materials with freely available materials, library licensed digital resources, and OER are encouraged to apply.

Program information

Participants will curate a zero-cost OER to replace the existing course material in a course faculty will teach this coming Fall 2019. In order to be considered zero-cost OER, the course section you teach must assign freely available web resources and openly licensed materials; inclusion of library licensed digital resources is also recommended.

This intensive program will dedicate a significant portion of each of the three-day sessions to individual work on OER development in addition to seminar style discussions and activities. Sessions are led by Prof. Cailean Cooney, OER Librarian, and colleagues with expertise in OER and the OpenLab. Individual follow-up consultations are available to Fellows in June as well.

The program will cover:

  • An introduction to open educational resources
  • Understanding and selecting Creative Commons licenses
  • Searching and selecting OER and zero-cost course materials
  • Creating an OpenLab site
  • Strategies to organize course materials for accessibility

In addition to assigning zero-cost course materials exclusively:

  • Participate in three day program on:
    • Wed. May 29th – 10am to 3pm
    • Tues. June 4th – 10am to 3pm
    • Thurs. June 6th – 10am to 3pm
  • Curate OER and post on a public OpenLab site - due June 20, 2019
  • Teach with the OER in at least 1 section of a course in Fall 2019 semester
  • Submit a brief written assessment of the experience in January 2020
  • Submit your course outline and / or syllabus to Academic Works, CUNY’s institutional repository

Upon completion of all of the above requirements, OER Fellows will receive a stipend of no less than $1,300.

Apply online (the application is also embedded below for convenience) - Submit* no later than Tuesday, April 30, 2019.

*Before submitting an application, please consult with your department chair and course coordinator about the proposed course you intend to replace with zero-cost OER.
